Environment

"The growing of tobacco means that less land is available for food crops. While some food is grown between crops of tobacco, it has been estimated that 10 to 20 million people could be fed by food crops grown instead of tobacco."

Barry, M. The influence of the US Tobacco industry on the health, economy, and environment of developing countries. New England J Medicine, 1991; 324: 917-9

Belief in the Ban

Delyth Lloyd of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) in Wales added;

"The ban will be an historic milestone for the health of the nation. Not only will it be good news for non-smokers, who will be protected from second hand smoke, but it represents the perfect time for smokers across Wales to attempt to give up for good."
