What Children Say

And this is what young people in Pembroke had to say…

“I believe Second Hand Smoke harms the others around you as much as you”
Maria

“It is good that the government has banned smoking in pub and clubs. The smoke goes around your food and if you don’t smoke you are still breathing it in”
Anonymous

“You should stop smoking in the house and smoke in the garden [for the safety of your family]”
Anonymous

“Second Hand Smoke can harm us and people around us”
Charlie

“…We can die [from SHS] as well as the smokers. It hurts our pets as well”
Anonymous

“It can affect me as well as the smoker and it is annoying when I walk across the streets [and breathe it in].”
Chelbie

“Like it or not, it [SHS] effects people and it can kill by fires.”
Chelbie

“I think that it is quite good [having a smoke free home] because children can be where the smoke is and take it in.”
Cory

“I think smoking in pubs is better banned, as some people might not smoke and hate the smell of it. House owners could ban smoking if they want to.”
Sammy-Jo

“They should stop smoking in the house and smoke in the garden!”
Sammy-Jo

Did You Know?

Twelve months after you quit, your increased risk of dying from heart disease is half that of a continuing smoker.

Belief in the Ban

Simon Blackburn of Macmillan Cancer Support said;

"Evidence shows that there is a 24% increased risk of developing lung cancer in non-smokers exposed to second hand tobacco smoke. The ban will have a significant impact on this major health problem."
