What is the All-Wales Tobacco Control Forum (WTCF)?

sennydd The AWTCF is coordinated by ASH Wales in order to contribute to, and build upon, the necessary infrastructure, skills and knowledge that will enable Wales to respond effectively to tobacco control issues.

The mission of the All Wales Tobacco Control Forum (AWTCF) is to bring together individuals interested in tobacco control in an effort to foster collaboration, maximise resources and communications to reduce the burden of tobacco use across Wales.

Who can join?

Membership is open to:

  • Organisations, local alliances and umbrella groups with a tobacco control remit
  • Those whose work is directly or indirectly tobacco control focused
  • Those who work with people vulnerable to tobacco

All members are required to declare that they do not have connections, affiliations or holdings with the tobacco industry or its representatives.

Minutes of meetings are provided to all Members and comments and contributions are welcomed.

The AWTCF gives you an opportunity to:

  • NETWORK with your colleagues; learn about what is happening, and share policy and programming strategies. You don’t have to reinvent the wheel.
  • HAVE A VOICE within Tobacco Control in Wales.
  • KEEP INFORMED about tobacco control events, policy and initiatives that impact on Wales.

The AWTCF is a pro-active, participatory body. We encourage active engagement of our members.

Membership of the AWTCF is free.

Together we can meet the challenge that tobacco presents to Wales and its people.

The Youth and Tobacco Forum (Launched July 2007)

The Youth and Tobacco Special Interest Group allows those involved in youth specific research and policy development, enforcement, youth and community work, health education, smoking cessation and paediatric medicine to network and exchange information. Additionally, young people themselves have a voice at this forum.

Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness and premature death. It kills around six times more people in the UK than road traffic accidents (3,439), other accidents (8,579), poisoning and overdose (3,157), murder and manslaughter (513), suicide (4,066) and HIV infection (234) – all put together 22,833 (2002 figures).

Did You Know?

Stopping smoking reduces the incidence and progression of lung disease including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
